Starting with version control can be intimidating, but it's an essential skill for any developer. This guide covers the absolute basics of getting started with Git and GitHub on Windows.

π Step 1: Create a GitHub Account
- Go to github.com.
- Sign up with your email.
- Verify your account.
- (Optional) Set up 2FA for extra security.
π» Step 2: Install Git on Windows
- Download the installer from git-scm.com.
- Run the installer.
- Important: When asked about the default editor, you can choose VS Code if you have it installed.
- Keep other settings as default (unless you know what you are doing).
- Open "Git Bash" or "Command Prompt" and type
git --versionto verify.
βοΈ Step 3: Upload Your First Project
- Create a new repository on GitHub (click the + icon top right).
- Open your project folder in Windows.
- Right-click and open "Git Bash Here" (or use terminal).
- Run these commands:
git init
git add .
git commit -m "Initial commit"
git branch -M main
git remote add origin https://github.com/YOUR_USERNAME/YOUR_REPO.git
git push -u origin mainπ Done!
