Forklift Simulator
About the Project
VR forklift safety trainer for HTC Vive Pro where you drive a forklift with a Logitech G29 wheel in realistic warehouse scenarios.
Key Contributions
- Led Unity development targeting HTC Vive Pro.
- Implemented custom input bridge for Logitech G29 wheel, pedals, and gears.
- Designed vehicle behavior to feel believable yet accessible in VR.
- Optimized performance (merging, baking) to maintain 90 FPS.
Genre & gameplay: Forklift Simulator is a VR training experience focused on workplace safety and correct forklift operation. Trainees drive through industrial scenarios, navigate tight spaces, and perform maneuvers that reinforce safe driving habits, spatial awareness, and accident prevention. My contributions: Led the Unity development of the simulator, targeting HTC Vive Pro during a period without official Logitech G29 support. Implemented a custom input bridge to read raw steering wheel, pedal and gear signals, then calibrated and mapped them to a forklift-specific controller. Designed and tuned vehicle behavior to feel believable in VR while remaining accessible for training. Optimized scenes through mesh merging, light baking and careful culling to maintain ~90 FPS and reduce motion sickness. Collaborated closely with the 3D artist and stakeholders to align the simulation with real safety requirements.
